Repeated traffic violations result in heavy penalties

In the 12-Step recovery community, repeatedly making the same mistakes and expecting a different outcome is often referred to as insanity. Repeatedly making the same mistakes on the road will eventually deprive you of your right to drive!

One very common traffic violation people commit is speeding. Speeding puts you and others at risk, since you could fail to negotiate a turn or stop. Some people lose control, while others don't see hazards up ahead.

Still, in most cases, no one gets hurt when someone speeds. That's why most cases result in nothing more than a fine, which is paid to the court. Depending on how many times you've been stopped, though, your outcome could be different.

What happens when you repeatedly speed and receive tickets?

If you're under the age of 21 when you're caught speeding, you'll face harsh penalties. They're harsher than the penalties for adults, since the authorities want to instill the importance of slowing down. You may have your license revoked in some cases or face other penalties.

As an adult, most people receive a ticket, fine and points on their licenses. Points add up over time. If you have 12 or more points in three years, you'll end up losing your license. Every traffic violation adds points to your license. If you are speeding and run a stop sign, you could face three points for running the stop sign and another four or reckless driving. It's easier than you may think for these points to add up.

Depending on the severity of the situation, you may also face consequences such as a driver's license suspension, cancellation or revocation. If your license ends up revoked or cancelled, you may never be able to drive again.

These are a few things that can happen with repeated traffic offenses. Slow down, it's not worth losing your license.
